In recent years New Testament scholars and historians concerned with Christian origins have become more aware of how important understanding the classical world in general and the Roman Empire in particular is for a more accurate understanding of what the founders of the Christian Church faced. Research in this area also helps us moderns give thought to how we engage our modern, increasingly post-Christian society.
