Addressing he forgotten history of American monuments

A healthy treatment of monuments would be to recognize the individuals they commemorate as both celebrated, but also complex and imperfect. It is possible to view monuments as representing perhaps a representation of outdated sentiments but also instructive artifacts of an earlier time in our history.
